PET FRIENDLY RENTALS INC.

Check craigslist.org for our adds.

Pets are too often the victims of poor decision making when their human caregivers move.  First of all, the people moving many times don't even consider the pet as part of the family, so the consideration to find a "pet friendly rental" never happens.

Secondly, those that do look for a place where their pet is "welcome", have few choices.  So most of them simply "give up" & the pet gets sent to a high kill shelter.

The third predicament for the pet is when the renter decides to just take their pet to the "no pets allowed" home. gets caught & is forced to "get rid" of the pet, so they end up either dumped or taken to a shelter.

What a shame for the pets.  Not only are they not considered a valuable part of the family...but they are cruelly dumped into the hands of someone else that will probably have to euthanize them.

Take the time to check Craigslist, rental Agencies & the local classifieds.

Make sure that when you negotiate being able to "keep your pet" that you can prove that he/she is spayed/neutered & vaccinated. No landlord wants to rent to someone who might allow their dog/cat to have a litter of puppies or kittens. Thousands of landlords are left with unwanted pets simply "left behind" by irresponsible tennants.

Take your pet to "meet" your landlord. Assure him/her that you use a crate for your pet when you are away...that way the dog can do no damage to the property.

Offer a vet reference &/or a trainers reference.

If your prospective landlord says "outdoor only"...comply, but see to it that your pet gets ample attention, a warm dog house with pleny of straw, a good supply of fresh food & water.  A couple of good daily walks will provide the attention & the beneficial exercise for you & your dog.
